Dear Leksell Gamma Knife^® Society Member,

We are hosting the 16th International Leksell Gamma Knife® Society meeting between March 25 and 29, 2012. It is a great honour to hold this meeting in our beautiful city of Sydney and we are confident that the program will continue the tradition of providing cutting-edge content and creating useful debate. The 4,000-year echoes of Hippocrates with the philosophy of “first do no harm”, the appropriate theme of Athens, is continued in Sydney where the healers of the traditional owners of Australia have held this same philosophy for 40,000 years.

The theme for our meeting is “Boundless Horizons”. We took inspiration from our vast continent of Australia, a nation with no man-made borders. This theme challenges our limits and makes us look forward to possibilities, reflecting the expanding use of Gamma Knife and the yet to be imagined potentials of this form of surgery.

The focus on cancer at the Sydney meeting reflects the burden of this disease to which the Gamma Knife is increasingly being devoted. However, the program comprehensively covers all aspects of innovation in Gamma Knife therapy and we believe that the meeting will have something of interest to all in the Society.

March is one of the best times of the year to visit and enjoy all that Sydney has to offer from outdoors, the beaches, the harbour and tours beyond the city. The meeting is planned to ensure that the fun and beauty of Sydney can be enjoyed.

The Opera House, historical centre and shopping centres are all within an easy walk of the conference centre.
